Force Windows to display a secure logon screen. The Welcome To Windows dialog box, shown in Figure 2-3, asks you to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, known as the secure attention sequence. Although this extra keystroke might seem inconvenient, it's your guarantee that Winlogon is calling Msgina.dll to request your user name and password. Only Windows 2000 or Windows XP can respond to this reserved key combination properly; the Ctrl+Alt+Delete sequence will cause a system reboot or display a Task Manager dialog box if a stealthily installed password-stealing program is displaying its own counterfeit version of the password-request screen in an effort to collect your password and send it off to an attacker.
